Snow White in Antwerp

Snow White (aka Dorothy... or maybe this should be the Wizard of Oz... no stick with the plan Kate, don't make the same mistakes you do when sailing) took her seven dwarfs on an outing to Antwerp. Sleepy (aka Iain), Dopey ( Simon ), Sneezy ( Martin W-J ), Bashful ( Bruce P), Grumpy ( Steve) , Happy (Keith ) , took to the water

They were joined by the Evil Queen ( Megan), the Mirror ( Kate) , whilst the Huntsman ( Jean Stowe ) and Doc ( Martin Pascoe) stayed ashore with Snow White to keep her safe.

Nine 2.4mRs went to the Norfolk Broads

Nine 2.4mRs went to the Norfolk Broads and if one 2.4mR should accidentally fall.......( hope you've picked up the tune!)

Thankfully not quite , as it was mine that nearly parted company with its trailer on the way to the crane ( note to all - if you put your mast up on land and then tow to the crane ... Watch out for over hanging trees- thankfully only a bent  wind indicator to show for it , straightened by Meg and Simon - so all is well in the world ).

Wroxham is a lovely place to sail especially when the wind is from a generally southerly direction.  The club house is right next to the sailing area, so it makes for good spectator sport and this year it was further enhanced as we joined the Star and Yeoman fleets, so it made for good viewing . The wild life added to the spectacle, with Swans, Greebs and Egyptian geese to feast your eyes on.

Leigh and Lowton 2.4mR Open

A small but well travelled fleet of five 2.4mR’s raced on the weekend of 3rd and 4th September at Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club with entries far and wide from Frensham Pond in Surrey to Bardowie SC just north of Glasgow.

Saturday saw almost non-stop rain and a light and variable wind. The fleet sailed their preferred windward leeward courses set from the club’s committee boat with the first and third race going to Bruce Hill and the second and fourth to Adam Billany followed in third by his father Shaun. The Stradivarius design sailed by Bruce was showing excellent speed in the light breeze and off the start but noticeably slower than the Norlins when the wind died off.

Sunday saw a fresher 15knt breeze and much drier weather plus an extra entry from the local fleet. Bruce won all four of these races followed again by Adam in all but the sixth race when Kathrin James from Rutland came in a well-fought second.

As the South hosts the majority events for this class it was great to see boats travelling so far and a really good well-run yet relaxed event. Hopefully it will be better supported with a larger entry next time, as Leigh and Lowton is such good sailing water in a great location.

1st. Bruce Hill, Frensham Pond.
2nd. Adam Billany, Derwent Water.
3rd. Shaun Billany, Derwent Water.
4th. Kathrin James, Rutland SC.
5th. Rory McKinna, Bardowie SC.

Bruce Hill - GBR 115

Tewksbury Twerking

Well, -  not quite, but we had a good go at The Time Warp and the Row boat song... providing a lot of entertainment for the club locals, bar man and the K1 fleet that join us for the weekend open at Tewksbury. DJ cool (Aka Simon Hill) and his able assistant (Meg), chose a great selection of songs to see us through the Saturday evening BBQ. Bar man Matt seem to enjoy the event and joined in on his broom.

National Championships

The 2016 International Paint Poole Regatta was held over the Spring Holiday weekend 28th - 30th May and during this at the Poole Yacht Club we held our National Championship.

1st place and 2016 National Champion was Iain Stowe. Just in case anyone is confused, where Iain is shown as 2.4mR winner on the Regatta website, the Mrs Robinson he is shown as winning with is his boat, not a crew! 2nd was Martin Whittingham-Jones and 3rd was Simon Hill. Special mention must go to Jean-Paul Alexander from the Royal Yacht Club van België who joined us.
