A lovely warm afternoon  greeted the early arrivals at Rutland Sailing Club for the Inland Nationals 2019 on Thursday and it was much of the same Friday for the later arrivals. Sun was out but unfortunately the breeze wasn't. Nice for rigging and boat bimberling but that was about it.

UK Tidal Nationals

RYA Multiclass regatta

After arriving on Friday and getting the boat in the water, accidental entertainment was provided due to the prom being run for the local schools. A red carpet was set up and there was a procession of cars and all the kids arrived beautifully dressed up after which they had an evening dinner in the hanger. It was great fun to watch and there was the wonderful juxtaposition between the sailors wondering around in kit, looking tired and wet and all the kids dressed up beautifully.

The inaugural Llangorse 2.4mR Open meeting took place over the weekend of 8 and 9 June with 5 visitors and 6 Home boats. The event was run in memory of Dave Collier a club member and 2.4mR sailor who sadly lost his battle with cancer in Dec 2018.

Frensham Pond Open Meeting

11th /12 th May

Frensham’s annual 2.4mR open meeting attracted another good entry this year with 19 boats over the 11th and 12th May. It was great to see visitors from as far as West Kirby and new entrants (Jazz and family) from Newhaven and Seaford. The class measurer Keith came from Tewksbury for some 5 yearly float tests. Even the lovely takeaway curry organized by Kate Hedley on the Saturday evening produced very little wind for the Sunday.

Queen Mary Open Meeting

April 27th/28th

The Queen Mary 2.4 Open brought a few surprises at the weekend. The first one was the water level which meant we could launch this year, but not until the Sunday due to storm Hannah.

Saturday we had winds in the mid 20's with gusts in the high 30's coming in from the SW . This meant is was precarious rigging on land and would have been nigh on impossible to launch and rig on the water. Although it  was very picturesque watching the white horses racing across the 707 acres of water the race officer had a meeting with the sailors at 11.00 (am) and it was agreed we would not join the horses. This left us to fill some time before the curry. Some had homes to go to, some had other plans and some of us used the unexpected extra time to make ourselves look amazing for the evening. The curry was lovely, service was faultless and the company was great.

 Antwerp City Cup 2018

It was a great season finale. Varying winds, gave all a chance to shine. The GBR sailors turned in very good overall results. We sailed the event in memory and celebration of Eric, who we will all miss greatly.

1st Megan Pascoe

4th Steve Bullmore

6th Nev Millard

7th Kate Hedley

15th Keith Gordon
