A further Message from Steve Bullmore Class President regarding Corona Virus

    World Championship 2020 Cancellation 16/5/2020

    Hi All
We have been in contact with the organisers in Florida about the forthcoming International 2.4mR World Championships and the Para World Championships which were due to be held later this year. The decision has been made that there are many factors in the Covid 19 times we live in that to hold the championships would not be practical.
Their decision to cancel is well in advance of the date which will hopefully mean that there will not be any negative aspects other than disappointment to those intending to have entered.
Obviously we are disappointed not to take our Class to the USA and the EC are making efforts towards another date with the organisers.
Our acceptance of the Worlds in Tonsberg, Norway in 2021 remains in place and one that we can look forward to bringing 2.4 sailing back onto the World stage.
Please advise your members of the cancellation and the EC will advise you of any further decisions soonest.
Our 2020 AGM can no longer be held and the EC is exploring the possibility of holding this as an electronic meeting, again advice on that will be posted soonest.
    Best wishes and remain safe
    Steve
    President International 2.4mR Class Association

Notice to all sailors concerning the corona virus pandemic. 14/03/2020

Hi All We are in the early grips of the corona virus pandemic. Different countries are experiencing a range of infection levels and in each case are taking different methods to hold back the virus for as long as possible. As a Class we must be very aware of the implications that this may well have on our sailing activities and in particular the major regattas that are planned for this year.

No one wants to cancel any regatta or championship but these are unprecedented circumstances and we have to plan and be aware of what has to be done. We have seen the first two regattas cancelled in Europe and I have no doubt more will follow, however decisions can only be made as the severity levels transpire and the travel restrictions are imposed by each country. I am aware that certainly for the World Championships in the USA at the end of this year there are substantial financial commitments made both by those intending to attend but also for the organisers of the event.

You need to know that the ICA are aware of these issues and have it now under constant review. We will, and the organisers of the World Championships will, keep sailors aware of the current position as time goes by. We will communicate any major developments as soon as we are aware of them, via NCA emails, the Owners Facebook site, and the Class website. The Worlds website will also show any up to date position or decision. Also to be able to make the right decisions it would be very helpful to have knowledge of the financial commitments that sailors and groups of sailors have made and what are the trigger dates that can affect these commitments. For example the last date for container cancellation without penalty or a similar date for flights booked. Once again you will all appreciate that these are unprecedented circumstances and we all want to make the right informed decisions along the way.

A Note From The Fixtures Secretary 2020,

Dear All, We are nearing completion with this years fixtures. Apologies about some dates arriving/changing late but they are often linked to other sailing club events and have to go through club committees before I can confirm them. They are also slotted in and around various international events that are beyond our control. Always popular among the 2.4 sailors is Poole (23-25th May) due to it’s great launching/sailing and fantastic facilities together with the very welcoming reception from the locals. However this is only held once every two years, which gives us a dilemma of where to hold the tidal nationals when not occurring at Poole, we have yet to source a suitable and cost effective venue due to the unique requirements of our class. However: earlier this year I had been in touch with Plymouth, they have two regattas, one for dinghies and another, later in the year for keelboats. The keelboat regatta sounds similar to Poole ie. Marina berthing/facilities, sea sailing/racing and, as it’s together with other keelboats, they also put up marquees to facilitate all the social events. They are reckoning on a reasonable charge for all the above due to their sponsorships though this yet to be finalized. We decided to hold a trail regatta this year (10th-12th July) to sample the venue and facilities but in order for success we need to show support from our own members and I appeal to you to at least come this year for an enjoyable weekend’s sailing. A minimum of six boats is required for our own start. Rutland (11th-13th Sept): This year we have had to move this event as the dates clashed with the late announced Europeans in Travelmunde, Germany. We are always made welcome at Rutland and again are privileged to be made so welcome considering the size of our fleet. Frensham Open (16th-17th May) : A popular event always ensuring a good entry these dates have now been confirmed and this as usual will consist of two late afternoon races on the Saturday and four on the Sunday so you don’t even need to get up early! There are often many visiting guests here just trying out the local club boats, which always makes it interesting. This year, the Frensham open is literally a week away from Poole so those travelling from afar may be interested in competing in both events! This is by no means all our events as we have the beautiful Llangorse (6th-7th June) and more all presently on our website Calendar So please consider that many of these opens cannot exist without your support, your non-attendance may have a negative effect on our class overall. Even if you don’t own a trailer just contact us and we will try to accommodate as much as we can. Finally: Both Steve Bullmore and Simon Hill (and his extra boats) have started a new fleet at Datchet. Hopefully this will encourage some incoming support from other competitive classes like the Flying Fifteen retirees so we are looking forward to an invite their for the first open and some fresh faces. Kind Regards and best wishes for the season ahead. Lets hope for support from everyone, Bruce Hill Fixtures Secretaryription
